War of 1812 programming at the public library

"Heroes and Villains of 1812" on Sept. 6

 

Please join us at the Hays-Heighe House on Thursday, September 6th at 3 p.m. for "Heroes and Villains of 1812" by David Healey, author of "1812: Rediscovering Chesapeake Bay's Forgotten War." Healey is the author of Civil War novels and other nonfiction works, including a soon-to-be-released book "Great Storms of the Chesapeake."

 

This event is the first of the fall semester at the Hays-Heighe House and continues our 1812 programming in support of our exhibit, which will run until December 2012.

 

The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, so come early to view the exhibit and save a seat!

US Declares War!!

 200 years ago, that is!

On June 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Great Britain. Find out all about the declaration of war, the local militia, and daily life in the early Republic at our exhibit! We are open Tuesdays 1-3 and Fridays 10-12, or other times by appointment.

May is National Preservation Month, and this year's theme is Discovering America's Hidden Gems.

A Special Guest

The Hays-Heighe House welcomed Dr. William Beanes on May 1st, for his recounting of the defense of Baltimore, the bombardment of Fort McHenry, and the poem that become our national anthem!

The War of 1812: Bicentennial Observance Exhibit runs until December, with Saturday hours on May 12 and 19, from 1-4 p.m.
